Brass Door Knocker Foundry
Solid brass door knocker casting.
Our brass door knockers are made by the sand casting method. This involves pouring molten brass into a mold made of sand.
The process is not new, it is centuries old. It is used to produce many types of products for many industries.
The pictures shown in the following pages were taken in our foundry as we developed one of our newer designs. The prototype from these pourings is pictured at the left of this page.
Our foundry is quite small compared to large production foundries. It is used only to produce some of our castings and to prototype designs. We do not produce all our castings here. Our larger production is done in commercial foundries where they are more expert in higher production. Our specialty is in the finishing and engraving of the casting.
The processes shown are relatively the same whether it is a large or a small foundry.
