About Your Door Knocker

Hello, I am Bill Shayler, owner of Shayler Engraving and Your-Door-Knocker.com

I have been a practicing professional engraver for over 25 years. Prior to my becoming an engraver I served in the United States Air Force with a Southeast Asia tour towards the end of the Vietnam war. My professional career after the service was in the rubber industry. I designed and developed molds for precision custom molded rubber parts. It was this career that ultimately led me to engraving.

In 1985 we established Shayler Engraving.

Shayler Engraving and Your-Door-Knocker.com is a family owned and operated business.

We began as a small town main street trophy and engraving shop. The business operated this way for almost 15 years.

We engraved and sold a variety of products. The ones we were best at and enjoyed the most was our collection of brass door knockers. With them we could create wonderful products that were a true value and of exceptional quality. Unfortunately a small northern Ohio town only had the need for so many door knockers.

The internet provided us the opportunity to seek out a larger market for our door knockers. If we were to serve a larger market we needed to increase our offerings.

In order to increase our offerings we developed an electroplating operation capable of both nickel and copper plating. This combined with our metal finishing and oxidation methods allows us to prepare a door knocker in up to 8 different finishes. We already had state of the art engraving systems and skills within the business so now our processes were complete.

The unique thing about our operation is the capability to process one door knocker at a time economically. This allowed us to custom prepare a door knocker on an as ordered basis.

Our next step was to find more styles of quality brass castings. A careful search resulted in the door knockers we offer on this site. Our search is not over. We are continually looking for more designs that will meet our standards of quality.

Quality brass castings along with our metal finishing and engraving capabilities all combine to create a world class line of hand finished engraved door knockers.

There is not another door knocker sold anywhere that has more family pride in it's preparation than a YDK door knocker.
